Finished: Courtyard Tiles quilt

I finished this quilt a couple of years ago and never posted it to the blog. It’s one of my favorites: the Courtyard Tiles pattern by Kelly Young at My Quilt Infatuation. I fell in love with it ever since I saw her version done with a hot pink camouflage fabric! Here’s my version, done ROYGBIV style:

Our staff photographer at work very graciously offered to take a photo of it in his studio – probably the best pic of one of my quilts ever! We used Command velcro strips to hold it to a screen that he raised to the appropriate height. (Note: You have to work fast, and you can’t move the quilt much because the strip doesn’t adhere to the fabric that well.) He then cropped and color-corrected and got quite close to the original.

This is a great pattern to show off large-scale prints. The recipient loves Boho-Chic, so I threw in a little of everything: Kaffe Fassett, Denyse Schmidt and other bits I’d collected over the years. Here’s a peak at the back, which I did in Pearl Bracelet (because every girl needs one!). We had to put it on the floor at this point, the strips had given up:

And another detail shot:

Because the fabrics were busy, I just went with an overall meander for the quilting. It was my first time free-motion quilting with my then-new Juki 2010Q, which handled it like a champ. How I loved having all that harp space!
